I have been trying out this approach of eating less carbs, incorporating more healthy fats into a balanced and healthy lifestyle for the last month and I have to say that it really is a great place to go to in order to become more aware of one`s eating patters and even the definitions of healthy eating in general that we might be holding on so tight to sometimes. The truth is that I have been thinking of this for a while, especially in terms of cutting down the amount of sugar, yes from healthy and nutritious sources, just because I did feel that at particular times that roller coaster effect that sugar spikes have was not really so pleasant. Not at all. So, naturally I kept asking myself, well if I am already eating a healthy balanced diet than what might be going on that is causing those unpleasant sugar spikes from time to time? And the answer has been, in my case, the high amount of carbs that I was eating. I have made a decision to dive deeper into this subject and decided to give just a little bit more attention to the healthy fats that I am incorporating into my diet. All those things, of course in terms of a healthy and balance vegan lifestyle.
After just a few days of switching between the amounts of foods that I was eating from each group, I have already started to feel the benefits. After 10 days – 2 weeks, my taste buds were already reacting differently to the sweet taste, meaning that I would need less sweetener in order to enjoy a particular recipe, that the amounts that I have been using before, and at the same time, some things even started to taste like they were too sweet. Well, at least for me. Now I would feel even more clear what happens with my blood sugar levels after eating something really sweet. So, as I decided to incorporate more healthy fats and increase the amounts of veggies that I would add to my lunch salad, I have realized that I no longer needed dessert to feel satiated and satisfied with my meal (something which I used to do before trying this, and I was doing it on a daily basis). Now I have been mixing what I have learned with what was already working for me and it is really great. I also realized that a breakfast with just coconut milk, chia seeds and coconut butter can be super feeling and nutritious without having to add to it any cereal or sweetener, something that I also used to do on a daily basis. So, as incredible as it may sound, this really is so easy and fun to make.
I have been able to notice in my life and in other people`s experiences that we might sometimes so easily get stuck within patterns that no longer serve us, perhaps those patterns have been working for a while, but now its just about time for some improvements, while for others those patterns that they found themselves locked into never worked. For me for example, vegan and especially raw vegan desserts felt amazing and tasted so good, it is actually where the whole journey started for me, but still after a couple of years, I felt it was about time for reaching out to the next raw vegan level, whichever ways that this might look like for me. Change is scary and is usually related to a sense of fear of uncertainty, but change is also the only thing that is a constant in our lives, so in order to be able to grow and evolve, we have to allow it to just come in at the right time and do its thing, so that we can all live happy, healthy and fulfilling lives on a day to day basis. By making a conscious choice to stay informed and in tune with our inner wisdom at all times, we are opening the doors to being able to live life to its fullest and be ourselves always, at all times.
