I have to admit that I am not such a big fan of summer, especially when it gets really hot, but I do enjoy melons and berries, so having then fresh and available at all times during the summer season truly feels like a gift. I just tried out this year an amazing mix of yellow melon with some blueberries and blackberries and it tastes absolutely divine. The sweetness of the melon and the sour and sweet taste of the berries are a great mix. It’s also super refreshing and a great breakfast choice or even as a snack. Just make sure not to go to crazy with the overall sweetness as this tends to affect the overall glycemic load which leads to potential sugar spikes that can have an effect on our overall wellbeing, leading to moods wings, concentration problems or even sugar cravings. Sure, it’s summer, and not only that but we do deserve a delicious and nutritious dish, especially as conscious eaters.

A few years ago for example I used to have entire days when I was only eating melons or watermelon but now it doesn’t really work anymore and I do not even feel like doing it again to be really honest. It can be sometimes refreshing, but now I just feel hungrier and hungrier and now I can also feel the sugar spikes so well. Therefore I am way more careful with the choices that I make according to the sugar intake and its impact on my blood sugar levels. When you feel it, you actually have an opportunity to get curious and ask yourself: how has my body changed in those last few years? How does a certain food or amount or food used to affect me in the past and how does it do it now, in the present moment? That’s just a moment of deep reflection. For better and healthier choices both for your minds and our bodies.

I just love this body awareness that we have and that gets developed in time the better we get to understand ourselves and our unique relation to food. Of course not only what we eat but also how we do it plays a huge role on our overall state of health and wellbeing and even though there is always a continuous debate between what is good and what is bad for us, the truth is that we are all unique individuals with some general guidelines, but with unique nutritional needs and unique bodily reactions to all those nutrients and the choices that we make. The truth is that we can all experience having a hard time with what we are eating, being because we are not feeling good or we do not even pay attention to what is going on, or perhaps quite the contrary we have always been paying attention but we also have to accept and adapt to our own bodies as they evolve with time and be open for change as it is truly and fully the only constant element in life.
