Our bodies were made to move and in todays day and age we are for sure spending way to much time sitting indoors and at our desks. Well, of course, not everybody has a desk job and this is not to day desk jobs are bad. Not at all. Its all about a kind and gentle reminder, yes, I know how that sounds, but stay with me, I promise it will be worth your time and patience, that our bodies need to move, and not just move as in blocks of movement isolated during the day, but also on a constant basis. Little time intervals of movement add up and lead us towards healthier bodies and healthier minds.

Simply standing up and moving a little bit every now and then is better than no movement at all. We might be thinking or saying to ourselves that we need to block a huge amount of time dedicated for movement, but the truth is that starting small and gradually increasing and deepening our practice is better that struggling to achieve unrealistic expectations. It is also important to find some way of moving our bodies that we enjoy doing and that we can embrace without struggling. Sure, building new habits requires time, dedication as well as commitment and patience, but it’s always easier when we are simply enjoying the things that we are committing to.

For me personally its all about pilates, yoga and stretching nowadays and all of those amazing movement opportunities, both at home and at the studio have been a huge help with my anxiety as well as panic attacks. Its not necessarily about jumping into a stretch while having a moment of anxiety, but actually about buiding safe grounds, a more resilient body, and after all a body that is able to perform at its best, to thrive and not just survive, and sometimes to also think outside the box.

Regular movement improves overall wellbeing both mind and body, and just represents a wonderful way to get back in touch with our amazing bodies and pay attention to the silent messages it might be sending us. A daily and weekly practice will organically change and grow with time, but that moment of deep connection with yourself is just a great way to start our days, to finish our days or to just go through with it in our days. Even if you haven’t done any movement for a while give yourself time and space to adapt to integrating those beautiful changes as well as giving your body time to adapt to transitioning into a more active lifestyle.

You can always start with a few simple moves or even better with a daily walk. I personally love my daily walks with Maya, my dog, its just another wonderful moment of connection, care and gentle movement that I can pretty much enjoy no matter where I am at in my life at a specific moment in time and space. Feel free to start with whatever form of movement, be it dance or strength training or anything else, but just make sure it resonates with you and your amazing body and simply enjoy how it goes, your body will thank you and you will feel so much better along the way.
